Frequently Asked Questions

How to prepare your Furricane for a run

You will be notified via text or phone call when we are on or way or near your location.  Please do not feed your dog an hour before they run and try to ensure they have relived themselves prior to our arrival.

How frequently should I run my Furricane?

Much like people, dogs do well with routine.  Many people prefer once a week around the same time every week.  Dogs get accustom to routine, not only will this help them physically, but mentally also.  They will be excited for their weekly Furricane Runners time! You know your dog best, and how they react to the exercise could help determine your own dog's frequency needs.

What is expected during your session?

A safe and happy experience for your Furricane! Every session is tailored specifically for your dog, including their mood.  We motivate them to keep moving with enthusiasm, different toys, and/or treats.  Most dogs might need 5 minutes to a session or two to gain the confidence in the self propelled treadmill.  As it is new to them, they need to learn to trust that the equipment will not hurt them and that they can balance on it as well.  They are harnessed in for safety so that they cannot fall off.  We want them to walk or run at their own speed, but we will be stopping for short breaks so that we can do a quick safety check and give water as needed.  There is NOTHING MOTORIZED on these treadmills, your dog does all the work!  We want these sessions to be positive experiences for your dog, so there is NO FORCING a dog run.  Even if they are walking slowly the whole time, they are focusing on balance and on the task during the entire session, so they will get a good workout even if it is a walking pace.

Should I be home for every session?

Though it is not required for you to be home for every session, we do ask that you are home for the first session.  Your dog will be less afraid of the new environment and experience with you there to encourage them until they are more used to the environment and us.  You can leave when you think they are ready or stay if you wish.  This is all about your dog and their needs.

Are there any specific requirements?

Please clear physical activity of your furricane with your veterinarian.  All furricanes have to have received full vaccinations as recommended by their veterinarian.  They must be at least 5 months of age and we can accommodate dogs 3lbs to 200lbs.  If they have any injury or prior injury, mobility issue that may need attention, please let us know.  We will do our best to work with every dog and meet their needs.

Safety

Happiness and safety are our goals.  The treadmills are kept in a climate controlled environment, so it won't matter if it is a Florida summer day or a cooler Florida winter, your dog will be able to enjoy a leisurely stroll or a fun run.  Safety is a priority.  The dogs are checked regularly to ensure proper harness attachments and that they are not over exerting themselves.  We want these experiences to remain positive so that you have a happy furriane!
